Hope someone can allay my fears. When I try to load the site, I'm getting a DNS lookup fail. However, when I log into a browser that blocks my IP address, it loads just fine. Should I be worried that I've been hacked somehow? I'm given to paranoia, so any advice from any tech-minded users would be greatly appreciated. Can't help but think of a troll comment from FACTnet about how they didn't conceal users IPs. Is there the same issue here? |

I'm not knowledgeable about IPs, but the only people who can see them are admins and supermoderators. |

Okay, I'm not a tech guy but I have a pretty good head for troubleshooting, so here's what I'd suggest: First, a DNS lookup fail doesn't seem like it would be related to a hack. You should check out other websites you like to visit and see if you get the same message. Most likely, it's something screwy with your normal browser (others aren't getting that same problem here), and, again, most likely, it was only a coincidence that your proxied browser gave no errors. I could be wrong, but this seems logical to me. Secondly, to make yourself feel a bit more secure, on the bottom right-hand corner of your gmail, there's Last Activity (however many days ago). Under that, there's a Details link. You can click on that and see all the times your gmail was logged into and by what IP. If somebody was using your account, that'll show up instantly. Finally, if you can't resolve the problem, you can call your ISP (I have Verizon and there's a 24/7 help line which proved very useful when I was getting DDoSed every day as a mod on IRC for keeping racism out of my channel) and describe what's happening. You can also try your browser support hotline or their web support. Hope this is helpful for you ... Bob |
